6.0 An Independent Mars

Colonists throughout human history have arrived, claimed, conquered, subjugated and reaped the benefits of new territories and fought many wars to keep what they have claimed. Mars can be claimed, does not have indigenous peoples to be conquered or subjugated but benefits are there to be reaped.

To ensure return on the dollar invested, a company or government needs to be assured of raw materials, a stable transportation system to get their products to market, a stable work force, safety, land., along with political stability in the region,

The high costs of independent development of transportation and site development plus time frames to reach Mars mean that a business venture needs to have exclusive reign over the territory for many years to come. Sovereignty will provide that.
