Grandiose Designs

General designs for a lunar base or an interplanetary colony are either grandiose adventure into futurism or are fundamentally flawed in their concept. Glass domes and spiraling towers are not practical until well into the later parts of stage three developments and may even be considered as phase four developments.

If we as a species are to leave this world and settle elsewhere we need to step up to the plate very quickly and be more practical in our designs. They may not be as pretty or grandiose as we would like but they would be functionally practical.

The reality of colonial architecture for decades to come will look more like the interior of a box than a soaring cathedral.  Colonists will be lucky to see anything more than a bleak wall staring back at them and it will be more like the interior of an ocean going freighter than a luxury liner.

A look at any image of the interior of the ISS will provide a good indication of the initial living conditions.

These hardships and sparse living conditions will begin to shape the culture and societal norms of any off world IPC with nationalistic, patriotic or corporate allegiances giving way to a community based cultural bonding.
