Colonial Development

Throughout history man has fought many wars for various reasons. Differences in religion, culture, language and form of government have often led to the most bloody of conflicts. Other conflicts arose for reasons of expansion and access to or control over a specific resource or tract of land.

Usually one individual or organized group is able to inflame or otherwise coerce individuals to band together to overpower an opponent or perceived threat. This is our history and once we reach out and begin interplanetary colonization this will probably continue to be our way.

I have previously written on law and governance and how interplanetary flight and colonization may affect Earth society. The ensuing gold rush from interplanetary resources becoming available will likely lead to conflict out there as was well as back on Earth. This unfortunate reality of human nature can however, be managed. Our expansion out into the solar system could with effort, be different, and this post is about a potential concept on how to do that.

Governance and land division in new territories has taken many forms over the centuries and before we look at how to sidestep this gold rush conflict we need to first understand a bit about how land has been divided in the past.
