3 – In their “Martian Interplanetary Communications and GPS System” proposal it is interesting that they intend to deploy GPS satellites. Although I have posted many aspects of my own colonial model there is much more background information, which includes GPS positioning.

As a former surveyor utilizing aerial mosaics in flight path recovery for geophysical surveys and also working in ground surveys, my intent was to use GPS for mapping city and territorial markers prior to mass colonization.

GPS enhanced landing and survey capabilities should be a major criteria from the very beginning. We have centuries of infrastructure on Earth and to provide the best possible outcome of our first attempts at off-world development we should be carrying as much of that infrastructure with us as possible.
