Elon Musk is eyeing a name change for Boca Chica, Texas, the Gulf Coast community where his Space Exploration Technologies Corp. is building its futuristic deep-space rocket. He has tweeted:
“Creating the city of Starbase, Texas, From thence to Mars, And hence the Stars”.
A SpaceX representative has made a “casual inquiry” recently about requirements to incorporate Boca Chica and rename it the City of Starbase. In a statement, , Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino said county commissioners have been notified of the discussions about Boca Chica where SpaceX’s new Starship prototypes dominate the seaside skyline.
Yet a twinkle in the eye of the man who has brought us SpaceX and Starlink (and other companies) it would seem that Mr. Musk is now looking to further solidify his interests in space with a fitting name for his space operations centre.
In previous posts in this blog I have laid out a colonial model that, given the Starbase announcement, may just see some light. Although I highly doubt that Mr.Musk has based his Starbase City concept on my colonial model, the very thought by Mr. Musk of a Starbase City is intriguing.
This model I am talking about has previously been posted to my Twitter account (@jclulow1) and aspects of it have been discussed in various other posts in this blog. The model is split into 4 quadrants and the lower right quadrant is the equivalent of an Earth based starbase which is the foundation of everything else.
The Earth portions of the colonial model incorporates business facilities, environmental test facilities, regular test facilities, colonial habitation conditioning facilities and a university for training colonists and flight crews. Flight operations are indicated elsewhere as there is an Earth and off-world operations wing identified within the model.
In this diagram, ESN represents the ‘home base” from which space operations proceed and it is the business and “embasy” portion of the “starbase”. Think of this as Musk’s Starbase City.
Within that city is the MCE or colonial operations centre which includes:
a. The ESB is where various Earth based corporate entities can test and integrate their products into the flight operations
b. The MTF is the environmental testing facility while the
c. MSB is the colonial habitation conditioning facility
The MCU is the training facility for colonists and flight crews.
